Hilary Baird works as regional public affairs manager of the League of California Cities.
She works with 37 cities in Kern, Kings, Tulare, Fresno and Madera counties, building relationships between local elected officials, city staff and legislators and helping to educate and lobby on behalf of the interests of those cities.
Prior to her current role, Hilary served as a public affairs specialist for State Farm insurance, handling the company's regional philanthropic efforts while working with legislators and the media.
She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in psychology and minors in political science, mathematics and technical theatre. She has worked for U.S. Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, in his Washington, D.C. office and served an 18-month Spanish-speaking mission for her church along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Hilary moved to Bakersfield in 2003 and has been active in the Bakersfield community since then.
“The future of clean energy in the Valley is bright with possibilities,” she said. “The Valley is poised to be a leader in the field as it capitalizes on its vast and unique resources.
“Clean energy is an important part of our future energy needs. Creating clean energy, using infinite resources like hydro, solar and wind, gives us another tool to meet energy demand. These clean energy tools allow us to use finite energy sources like natural gas and oil in a thoughtful manner. As we move forward in meeting energy demand we need to keep in mind all of the available tools as well as the multi-faceted needs, including health and economics, of all Valley residents.”
