    Water Power Projects  

The U.S. Department of Energy requests proposals for Advanced Water Power   Projects.  Through this initiative, DOE seeks technologies that demonstrate a capability of utilizing one or more of the following for electricity generation: Ocean waves; tides or ocean currents; free flowing water in rivers, lakes, streams or man-made channels; or other water-based resources, including an improvement in the efficiency and/or environmental performance of conventional hydropower and electricity generation from differentials in ocean temperature.  $18.5 million expected to be available, up to 17 awards anticipated.  Responses due 6/16/08.

Community Health and Brownfield Land Reuse

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, requests proposal for Community Health Projects Related to Brownfield/Land Reuse.  The purpose of the program is to identify and address public health and issues with

 Environmental Justice

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requests proposals for the Environmental Justice Small Grants Program (EJSG).  EJSG supports projects that addresses a local environmental and public health issue within an affected community and is designed to help communities understand and address their exposure to multiple environmental harms and risks.  An “affected community,” for the purposes of this program, is a community that is disproportionately impacted by environmental harms and risks and has a local
environmental and/or public health issue that is identified in the proposal.  $800K expected to be available, up to 40 awards anticipated.  Responses due 6/30/08.

 National Clean Diesel Finance Program  

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requests proposals for the SmartWay Clean Diesel Finance Program.  Through this program, EPA will support the establishment of innovative nationally-focused financial programs to fund diesel emissions reductions.  Proposed innovative financing may include, but are not limited to: Issuance of loan guarantees, equity investments that leverage additional funds, revolving loan funds, or issuance of tax exempt or taxable bonds for low cost loan programs.  $3 million expected to be available, up to 4 awards anticipated.  Responses due 6/9/08.  For more info, contact Ken Adler at Adler.Ken@epa.gov or go to:

 West Coast Collaborative Diesel Emissions Reduction Program –

 Energy Frontier Research Centers  

The U.S. Department of Energy requests proposals for Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRCs) to accelerate the rate of scientific breakthroughs needed to create advanced energy technologies for the 21st century.  The EFRCs will pursue the fundamental understanding
necessary to meet the global need for abundant, clean, and economical energy.  Through this initiative, DOE seeks to bring together the skills and talents of multiple investigators to enablefundamental research of a scope and complexity that would not be possible with the standard individual investigator or small group research project.  $500 million expected to be available, up to 50 awards anticipated.  Responses due 10/1/08.  For more info, contact Emiela Bradford at  emiela.bradford@ch.doe.gov or go to:

 Water Efficiency – California Bay-Delta

The U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, Mid-Pacific Region, requests proposals for CALFED Water Use Efficiency Grant Program.  Through this initiative, CALFED will fund urban and agricultural projects that improve ecosystem health, water supply

 Energy Innovations Grants - California

The California Energy Commission requests proposals for the Energy Innovations Small Grant (EISG) Program.  EISG supports research thatestablishes the feasibility of new, innovative energy concepts.  Projects must address a CA energy problem and provide a potential
benefit to CA electric and natural gas ratepayers, and target one of the following areas:  Industrial/agriculture/water end-use efficiency; building end-use efficiency; environmentally preferred advanced generation; renewable generation; energy-related environmental research; and energy systems integration.  Individual hardware projects NTE $95K, modeling projects NTE $50K.  Pre-proposal abstracts are optional and are due 5/2/08, final proposals due 6/10/08.  For more info, contact eisg@projects.sdsu.edu or go to:

 Young Environmental Leaders

Earth Island Institute requests proposals for the Brower Youth Awards to Honor Young Environmental Leaders.  This program recognizes young leaders between the ages of 13 and 22 for outstanding activism and achievements in the fields of environmental and environmental justice advocacy.  Winners receive $3K, a trip to CA for the awards ceremony, a wilderness camping trip and access to Earth Island Institute resources.  Responses due 5/15/08.  For more info, go to: http://broweryouthawards.org/article.php?id=113
